‘We must build Bangladesh into a democratic state thru peoples’ mandate’

BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has said that Bangladesh must be built into a democratic, welfare-oriented state through the people’s mandate.

Tarique made the remnark while holding a meeting with top leaders of political parties participating in the simultaneous movement with BNP.

The meeting was held after the Jumah prayer on Friday, where leaders of the BNP’s allied parties gathered at the BNP Chairperson’s Office in Gulshan.

The meeting was attended by senior figures from the 12-Party Alliance, the Like-Minded Alliance, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), and the Bangladesh Labour Party.

BNP’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee members Nazrul Islam Khan and Begum Selima Rahman, as well as BNP Vice Chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo were present during the meeting.

In his opening remarks, Tarique Rahman said, “Through a long struggle and movement, the fascist regime fell with the July Uprising. In the upcoming election, we must, through the people’s mandate, build Bangladesh into a democratic and welfare-oriented state.”

During the video address, he reaffirmed his commitment to achieving that vision through the electoral process.

Representing the like-minded parties were Mustafa Jamal Haider, chief coordinator of the 12-Party Alliance and chairman of the Kazi Zafar faction of the Jatiya Party; Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad, chief coordinator of the Like-Minded Alliance and chairman of the National People’s Party (NPP); Begum Selima Rahman; LDP Secretary General Dr Redwan Ahmed; and Bangladesh Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran, among others.
