
Mehedi Hasan Maclin, a banned leader of the Bangladesh Chhatra League and a notorious member of former MP Shamim Osman’s gang, has been arrested by a team from the International Crimes Tribunal.
He was detained on Monday (August 4) in the Link Road area of Narayanganj with the assistance of the district Detective Branch (DB) police. Maclin is a wanted accused in a murder case under investigation by the International Crimes Tribunal.
According to DB police, Maclin is also a prime accused in a case related to an attack on student protesters during the July uprising. During the movement, Maclin and his supporters, allegedly under the direction of former MP Shamim Osman, carried out armed attacks and opened fire on the student protesters at Chashara.
Following this incident, the International Crimes Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Maclin in connection with the case.
Tarek Al Mehedi, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Narayanganj District, confirmed the arrest. He stated that Maclin was detained by a DB police team following a requisition from the International Tribunal. The tribunal's team later took him to Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
It is worth noting that Maclin was previously arrested during "Operation Devil Hunt" on February 21 but was later released on bail.
