At least seven members of the same family were killed in a tragic road accident in Begumganj, Noakhali, early Wednesday. The identities of the deceased were not immediately known.
The incident occurred in Alaiyapur Union when a microbus, returning from Dhaka after picking up an expatriate from Oman, lost control and plunged into a roadside canal.
Talha Bin Zashim, officer (media) at Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters, said the accident occurred around 5:40am when the microbus carrying the passengers lost control and fell into the water body in Chandraganj Purbo Bazar of the upazila.
The accident left at least seven people dead on the spot, he said.
On information, one firefighting unit from Chowmuhuni Fire Station rushed to the scene around 6:05am and retrieved the bodies and sent the injured to a hospital, said the FSCD official.
