No obstacles to holding elections in February: Nazrul Islam

BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan said that the party does not see any obstacles in holding elections in February.

He told reporters after a courtesy call with the director general of Darul Uloom Mainul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari, Chattogram on Friday afternoon.

Nazrul Islam Khan said, “I do not see any obstacles in the way of holding elections in February. Since I do not see any obstacles, there is no reason to worry that it may or may not happen. We are waiting, hopefully the government will soon come out with their clear statement in this regard and advise the Election Commission accordingly.”

Another member of the BNP standing committee, Salahuddin Ahmed, said that the BNP is taking the necessary steps to implement the July National Charter, but there are differences of opinion on 51 of the 826 recommendations.

Earlier, upon reaching Hathazari, the two BNP leaders visited the graves of the late Amir of Hefazat-e-Islam, Maulana Shah Ahmed Shafi and Junaid Babunagri. Later, they paid a courtesy call on the Director General of the Madrasa, Mufti Khalil Ahmed Qashemi and Shaykhul Hadith Sheikh Ahmed.
