Two Bangladeshi youths were shot dead by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) along the Bashpaduya border in Parshuram upazila of Feni district.
The incident occurred on Thursday midnight (July 24).
The deceased were identified as Jakir Hossain Millat, son of Yusuf Mia, and Mohammad Liton, son of Gachi Mia, both residents of Bashpaduya in Parshuram municipality.
Another individual, Afsar, was critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Millat’s body is at Feni General Hospital, while Liton’s body has been taken to the morgue at Bilonia Sub-Divisional Hospital in Tripura, India.
Local sources said Millat, Liton, and Afsar had gone to the Bashpaduya border area at night when BSF personnel opened fire on them. Two of the injured were initially taken to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Feni General Hospital, where Millat died during treatment. Liton was taken across the border to India’s Bilonia hospital, where he also died from his injuries.
Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mosharraf Hossain, commander of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Battalion-4 in Feni, said the Bashpaduya border area is known for smuggling activities. Following reports that Bangladeshi citizens were shot by BSF personnel along the border, BGB troops promptly visited the scene.
The BGB will lodge a formal protest over the incident. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to repatriate Liton's body.
