The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) has published the results of the written examination for the 48th special Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), aimed at strengthening the public healthcare system by recruiting medical professionals.
According to a press release issued by the PSC on Sunday night, a total of 5,206 candidates have qualified for the viva voce stage. Among them, 4,695 candidates were selected for assistant surgeon positions, and 511 candidates for assistant dental surgeon posts.
The written (MCQ) exam was conducted on July 18 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm across 27 centers in Dhaka city. While 41,025 candidates registered for the examination, the commission has not confirmed how many ultimately sat for the test.
The PSC notification, signed by Masuma Afrin, Controller of Examinations (Cadre), stated that all qualified candidates will now proceed to a 100-mark viva voce examination. The schedule for this next stage will be announced soon.
Sources at the PSC noted that this special BCS initiative seeks to recruit 3,000 medical professionals, including 2,700 assistant surgeons and 300 assistant dental surgeons, in response to a growing demand for doctors in public hospitals and rural healthcare facilities.
This targeted recruitment drive is part of the government’s broader plan to address staffing shortages and improve access to quality healthcare across Bangladesh.
