Bangladesh make it four in four winning against Bhutan

Bangladesh maintained their perfect run in the SAFF U-20 Women’s Championship with a 3-0 win over Bhutan at the Bashundhara Kings Arena-2 on Wednesday, making it four wins in four matches.

Despite a sloppy start from both sides, chances came early, with Sree Moti Trishna Rani missing a few. Bhutan pressed hard but couldn’t convert.

Though spectators were not allowed after a venue change, several hundred fans gathered outside and cheered throughout.

An early injury to Bonna Khatun brought Sapna Rani into the match in the 30th minute, and she immediately made her mark. Her through ball found Trishna, who slotted in a fine opener in the 32nd minute.

The hosts led 1-0 at the break.

Trishna doubled the lead in the 65th minute, capitalising on poor defending and goalkeeping.

A bit earlier, she had won a penalty in the 61st minute, but Sapna skied the spot-kick. Coach Peter Butler’s shout—“Sapna, forget it!”—seemed to work, as she responded with a stunning long-range strike from nearly 40 yards.

Trishna missed a golden chance for her hat-trick in the 77th minute, but the damage was already done. With this win, Bangladesh firmly remain on top of the table.
