
At least eight people, including five women, were killed in a head-on collision between a microbus and a truck on the Bonpara-Hatikumrul Highway in Natore’s Baraigram upazila on Wednesday morning.
The victims, all from Dharmadah village in Kushtia’s Daulatpur upazila, were identified as Zahidul Islam, his wife Shelly Begum, sister-in-law Ety Begum, Shima Khatun, Anwara Begum Anu, Anjuman Ara, Anna Khatun, and microbus driver Shahab Uddin, according to UNB.
The accident occurred around 10:30 am near the Sirampur Araimari Bridge area when the Dhaka-bound microbus from Natore collided with a truck, said Ismail Hossain, officer-in-charge of Bonpara Highway Police Station.
Five people died on the spot. Three others were critically injured, one of whom died en route to a local hospital. The remaining two, including the driver and a woman named Shima, later died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
They were returning to Enayetpur in Sirajganj after visiting a sick relative in Kushtia.
