NCP unveils ’New Bangladesh Manifesto’ with 24-point agenda

The Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) on Sunday launched its "New Bangladesh Manifesto," a sweeping 24-point agenda aimed at bringing fundamental reforms to the country.

The manifesto, presented by NCP Convener Nahid Islam at a rally at the Central Shaheed Minar, outlines the party’s vision for a democratic, inclusive, and welfare-oriented Bangladesh.

Nahid emphasized the NCP’s commitment to ensuring "exemplary trial and punishment of all crimes against humanity committed during the period of Awami Fascism." The manifesto also includes pledges to stand by the martyrs of the July uprising, providing full state recognition and rehabilitation for the injured.

Speaking at the rally, Nahid reflected on the party’s formation and the ongoing struggle against fascism: "We called for the fall of the fascist regime one year ago. Today, we stand victorious thanks to the sacrifices of the students, workers, and the people."

Key Points of the 24-Point Manifesto:

The manifesto touches on a broad range of issues aimed at national transformation, including:

  • New Constitution & Second Republic: Establishing a new constitution and forming a non-discriminatory, democratic republic.

  • Justice for July Uprising: Holding trials for crimes committed during the period of Awami Fascism, including the July mass killings.

  • Democratic Reforms: Strengthening accountability within the Election Commission and reforming state institutions.

  • Judicial & Legal Reforms: Creating an independent judiciary and updating colonial-era laws.

  • Service-Oriented Governance: Prioritizing merit-based administration and enacting a Whistleblower Protection Act.

  • Law Enforcement Reforms: Updating police regulations and disbanding the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

  • Local Government Empowerment: Establishing "village parliaments" and decentralizing power.

  • Universal Healthcare: Ensuring access to healthcare for all citizens, with a focus on primary and mental health care.

  • Education & Innovation: Strengthening education, promoting science and technology, and fostering an innovation-driven economy.

  • Women's Rights & Safety: Improving legal protections and empowering women in politics and society.

  • Environmental Sustainability: Building a climate-resilient Bangladesh with an emphasis on renewable energy and pollution control.

The NCP’s manifesto reflects its ambition to build a fairer, more democratic Bangladesh that addresses the needs of its citizens while combating long-standing issues of inequality and political oppression.
