“Hundreds of people were chanting, ‘we’ve become independent’”

Today is the first anniversary of historic July Mass Uprising. On this day last year, a fascist regime fell in the face of a mass movement. Cultural Affairs Advisor Mostafa Sarwar Farooki posted on social media, calling this day the second independence.

In the post, he wrote, “Rickshaw pullers were shouting, the country has become independent. The youth were saying, it is our victory day. Hundreds of people were chanting that we have become independent. No one taught these people to say this. So how did they understand that they were subjugated? How did they understand that they were independent? Why couldn't some PhD holders understand what they understood? Why can't the minds of PhD holders understand 'second independence'?”

Farooki said, “Dear sir, don’t just depend on theory, but also listen to the hearts of the excited people of that day. You will see that they were chanting against the humiliation of being subjugated in their own country, against disappearances, murders and the humiliation of being subjugated. And (late) Abrar Fahad was vibrating (in joy). Fascism and aggression have been buried under the wall of this one name.”

He also said, “I started this day by watching 'You Failed to Kill Abrar Fahad'. Today, Abrar Fahad will be with us all day at Manik Mia. Thousands of martyrs will be there. And there will be the joy of being free from the oppressor. Finally, he mentioned a line from a popular song and wrote, 'Listen, Mahajan (maverick), we are many.’”
