People will regain their rights through February polls: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said BNP is optimistic that democracy will be established in the country through the upcoming election in February.

"People will regain their lost rights, and the country will move forward on the right path," he said.

He remarks these while talking to the reporters after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal(R) in Sylhet this morning.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, on behalf of the BNP, Begum Khaleda Zia, and Tarique Rahman, expressed respect, honor, and sympathy for those who were martyred and injured during the movements in July and August.

Mirza Fakhrul said, "We hope that the struggle the people of Bangladesh have waged to regain their democratic rights is about to bear fruit. A meeting has already taken place in London between the BNP's Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the Chief Adviser, during which discussions were held regarding an election in February.”

He further stated, "Over the last 15 years, we’ve been engaged in a relentless struggle against a fascist regime. Around six million of our leaders and activists have been falsely implicated in fabricated cases. Thousands have lost their lives, and 1,700 have been subjected to enforced disappearance including the brave leader from Sylhet, M. Ilyas Ali.”

The BNP has endured tremendous oppression and persecution in its struggle to bring down the fascist regime, he said

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and several central leaders of BNP came to Sylhet at the invitation of UK BNP President MA Malik.

In the afternoon, they will participate in a Milad and prayer gathering for the good health of party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman's well-being, followed by a rally.

After that, the central BNP leaders will participate in a program organised by the district and metropolitan BNP to honour the July fighters.
