The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Monday begins second day of hearings on charge-framing against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two of her top aides in a case involving alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July-August mass uprising.
The co-accused are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, reports Daily Sun.
The hearing is set to take place before the three-member tribunal, headed by Justice Golam Mortuza Mozumder. Former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who is now in jail to stand trial, is already produced before the tribunal. On the other hand, the state appointed a lawyer as defence counsel to represent Hasina and Kamal in their absence.
The prosecutors presented their argument at the first hearing on 1 July. The proceeding of the first hearing was telecast live on BTV.
Based on that, the defence will present their argument on today. The tribunal published notices in two national dailies, directing Hasina and Kamal to surrender after the formal submission of the charges. The state appointed a lawyer as they failed to appear in court before the due date.
The prosecutors stated that the depositions against Sheikh Hasina will begin at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) at the end of July or in the first week of August.
