JP central office vandalised, set on fire

The central office of the Jatiya Party (JP) in the capital’s Kakrail, came under attack, with acts of vandalism and arson reported on Saturday evening, shortly after 6:00 pm.

Witnesses said leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad and Islami Andolon Bangladesh marched toward the office, triggering tension in the area. After about 15 minutes, several unidentified individuals pelted bricks, vandalized the premises, and set fire inside and outside the building.

Police charged batons and water cannons to disperse the attackers and extinguished the blaze. The situation continued until around 6:40 pm.

Earlier, Gono Odhikar Parishad staged a protest rally at Bijoynagar against an attack on its president and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur, demanding punishment for those responsible.

The rally later turned into a procession that paraded Paltan, Press Club, Matsya Bhaban, Kakrail, and Nightingale intersection.
