
Twenty-five additional judges for the High Court, including the father-in-law of NCP leader Sarjis Alam, will take the oath of office on Tuesday noon, the Supreme Court registrar’s office has confirmed.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oaths at the Judges’ Lounge on Supreme Court premises at 1:30pm.
Earlier, on Monday night, the law ministry announced the appointment of 25 law officials as additional judges to the High Court for two years. Upon completion of a temporary appointed period, the judges would become permanent judges.
The new additional judges are: Md Anwarul Islam (Shahin), Md Saiful Islam, Md Nurul Islam, Sheikh Abu Taher, Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan, Rajiuddin Ahmed, Faisal Hasan Arif, SM Saiful Islam, Md Asif Hasan, Md Ziaul Haque, Dihidar Masum Kabir, Jasmine Ara Begum, Murad-e-Mawla Sohel, Md Zakir Hossain, Md Rafizul Islam, Md Manjur Alam, Md Lutfar Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Fatema Anwar, Mahmud Hasan, Abdur Rahman, Syed Hasan Zubair, AFM Saiful Karim, Urmi Rahman, and SM Iftekhar Uddin Mahmud.
Lutfar Rahman was appointed deputy attorney general following the July uprising. He was a former leader of BNP's student wing Chhatra Dal and a former vice-president of BNP's Barguna district unit. He was appointed as deputy attorney general before his daughter married Sarjis.
On 2 February, in a Facebook post, Lutfar Rahman confirmed that his daughter married July uprising leader Sarjis Alam on 31 January. He sought blessings for the new couple.
