The area around the State Guest House Jamuna has been experiencing intense agitation demanding that the Awami League, which was ousted from power in a student-public uprising, be banned by declaring it a terrorist organization.
Protests have been going on there since Thursday night with the participation of students and the public.
On Friday morning, it was seen on the ground that the protesters were protesting in front of Jamuna, the residence of the Chief Advisor. A big rally has been called there after Friday prayers. For this, work is underway to build a temporary stage in five trucks near the fountain adjacent to Minto Road next to Jamuna Bhaban.
Since morning, the premises next to Jamuna have been filled with various slogans. The protesters, who had been protesting all night, continued their protest program in the morning as well. Their voices were strong demands to ban the Awami League. The protesters are chanting slogans like 'Ban ban, Awami League ban', 'Delhi or Dhaka, Dhaka Dhaka' etc.
In August last year, the Awami League was ousted from power in a student-led uprising. Faced with public outrage, party leader Sheikh Hasina left the post of Prime Minister and fled the country. According to the United Nations, 1,400 people were killed in the violence, including attacks by security forces and armed cadres of the Awami League on the orders of Hasina.
Since the fall of the Awami League government, students and the public have been actively protesting for their justice.
In the context of the silent departure of two-time President Abdul Hamid of the Awami League regime late on Wednesday night, the demand for action against the party intensified. Various platforms that participated in the July uprising also questioned the government's goodwill in this regard. In the meantime, a sit-in program began in front of the Jamuna at 10 pm on Thursday at the call of National Citizens Party (NCP) Chief Organizer (South) Hasnat Abdullah, which is still ongoing.
