Narayanganj seems to have turned into a city of death. Over the past 25 days, dead bodies have been found one after another across different areas of the district. Heartbreaking incidents including murder, accidents, and suicides have claimed lives every single day.
Each neighborhood is now heavy with wails and grief from losing loved ones. According to reports from various media outlets, from April 7 to May 2 this year, a staggering 30 lives have been lost in just 25 days in Narayanganj. This alarming statistic has raised serious concerns about the district’s law and order situation and its broader social context.
Over the past few weeks, pages of Narayanganj newspapers and online portals have been filled with death reports. Sometimes, unidentified bodies are found floating along the banks of the Shitalakshya River, sometimes hardworking people lose their lives in road accidents, and sometimes, lifeless bodies of those suffering from depression are found inside homes. These are not just numbers; each death carries a story—broken dreams and endless grief of family members.
Residents believe that law enforcement agencies need to take more stringent measures. Additionally, raising social awareness and focusing on mental health protection have become urgent needs. If this tragic death toll cannot be halted, there’s a looming fear that Narayanganj’s social fabric may collapse. Only a combined effort from the administration and the society can help steer away from this dire state.
