Pakistan claims downing 5 Indian jets, damaging 2 army outposts

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) shot down five Indian fighter jets and one drone, while the army damaged at least two army outposts along the border areas in response to the overnight airstrikes carried out by India in at least six locations in Pakistan, the Pak armed forces said.

Pakistan has also captured several Indian troops.

Quoting Pakistan military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif, Pakistan's Geo TV and Al Jazeera confirmed the developments.

India's Hindustan Times reported Pakistan army has violated the border along Kashmir with heavy shelling, but did not specify the impact.

Reuters and the AFP news agency are reporting that India's army has said three Indian civilians have been killed in military action by Pakistani troops in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Pakistan PM Shahbaz Sharif says Pakistani forces are on the ground but refuses to specify where.

"Pakistani forces are giving a befitting reply to Indian aggression," a military statement said, adding that all PAF aircraft involved in the operation had returned safely.

Eyewitnesses in Rawalpindi, a major city in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, reported seeing a missile in the air, which was believed to have been launched from within Pakistani territory.
