Hasnat calls for large gathering in front of Jamuna after Jumma

A sit-in program is underway in front of the residence of the interim government's Chief Advisor, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, demanding the banning of the Awami League as a 'terrorist organization'.

National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organizer (south) Hasnat Abdullah has called for a large gathering in front of the Jamuna after Friday Jumma prayers.

The gathering will be held in front of the fountain on the east side of the Jamuna, the residence of the Chief Advisor. He has urged everyone to participate in it, regardless of party affiliation.

Hasnat Abdullah announced this program from the ongoing protest program around 8:30 am.

Later, Hasnat wrote in a status on Facebook, “After Jumma, the sit-in program will continue in front of the Jamuna demanding the banning of the Awami League. Anti-fascist political and cultural parties, families of victims of the Peelkhana massacre, the Shapla massacre, disappearances, murders and oppression, and the families of those martyred and injured in the July uprising are requested to participate in it. The fight is on and will continue until the genocidal Awami League is banned."

The Awami League was ousted from power in a student uprising in August last year. The party’s leader, Sheikh Hasina, resigned from the post of Prime Minister in public anger and fled the country. According to the United Nations, 1,400 people were killed in violence, including attacks by security forces and armed cadres of the Awami League on Hasina’s orders.

Since the fall of the Awami League government, the students and people active in the uprising have been vocal in demanding justice for them.
