As part of the "Operation Devil Hunt" drive in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district, police have arrested Nazrul Islam, Senior Vice President of the Daudpur Union unit of Jubo League.
He was apprehended on Tuesday night (May 27) from a house in Sector 7 of the capital’s Uttara area. Nazrul Islam is a resident of Khas Daudpur area in Rupganj’s Daudpur Union and the son of Mia Box.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rupganj Police Station, Liakat Ali, stated that during the Hasina government’s tenure, Nazrul was involved in criminal activities such as terrorism, land grabbing, and other offenses in the area. Following the fall of the government on August 5, he went into hiding.
He further added that police recently received intelligence suggesting Nazrul had returned to the area and was planning to incite fresh unrest. Acting on this tip-off, he was arrested from Uttara on Tuesday night. He has been booked under the Special Powers Act of 1974. On Wednesday, police sought a 7-day remand in court for further interrogation.
