Jewellery businesses nationwide have been closed indefinitely in protest against the arrest of BAJUS Vice President Md Reponul Hasan, which jewellers claim is based on a "false case" filed on Wednesday night, according to a statement from their alliance.
According to the statement from Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS), all the jewellery stores and business establishments would remain shut indefinitely from Wednesday night, demanding the release of Md Reponul Hasan.
BAJUS Acting President Gulzar Ahmed, General Secretary Badal Chandra Rai and other central leaders of the organisation signed the statement.
Earlier, at 7.30pm, law enforcers arrested Md Reponul from his business site at Tatibazar in the capital.
