Four workers suffered burn injuries in a gas explosion caused by a leak at a house in Khanpara area of Duptara Union, Araihazar Upazila, Narayanganj district. The incident occurred on Thursday morning (May 22).
The injured were promptly rescued and admitted to the emergency department of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The victims have been identified as Kamrul Hawladar (30), Atikur Rahman (25), Md. Afridi (24), and Md. Habibur Rahman Sohag (32).
Dr. Shawon Bin Rahman, Resident Surgeon at the National Burn Institute, said that Afridi sustained 8% burns, Atikur 5%, Kamrul 3.5%, and Habibur 1.5%. Fortunately, none of them are in critical condition, and all are under observation in the emergency unit.
Md. Aslam, a neighbor who brought them to the hospital, said all four work at Mithila Textile Mill in Khanpara and share a single room. The explosion occurred when accumulated gas ignited as they tried to light a match for cooking. Upon hearing of the incident, he rushed them to the burn institute.
