The ongoing student and teacher agitation at Jagannath University (JnU) has officially ended after the government accepted their 4-point demand. With this, the university-wide shutdown has also been called off.
On Friday (May 16), at around 8 PM, Jagannath University Teachers' Association General Secretary Professor Dr. Raish Uddin announced the end of the movement from the 'JnU Oikya' platform.
“All our demands have been met,” said Professor Raish Uddin. “A decision has been made to increase the university’s budget, and we have been assured that this will be maintained in all future budgets. The government accepted our 4-point demand in a joint meeting with the Ministry of Finance, the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Ministry of Education. We are grateful to the government.”
He further stated that a specific decision has been taken to address temporary accommodation issues, and the establishment of a second campus has been included in a priority project. “We will see the reflection of our demands in the upcoming national budget,” he added.
Declaring the end of the movement, Professor Raish Uddin concluded, “Since our demands have been fulfilled, we are officially calling off our movement and lifting the complete shutdown.”
