RIC organized a Consultation Meeting

a Consultation Meeting was held under the project titled `Improved Income Security Through Strengthened Intergenerational Groups for Older People in Bangladesh (ISIGOP), organized by the Resource Integration Centre (RIC).

The purpose of the meeting was to assess the progress of including older people in the mainstream microcredit programs operated by the existing microfinance institutions.

The objective of the meeting was to generate knowledge and finding opportunities of the older people for their inclusion in microfinance activities. The consultation meeting highlighted the older people’s greater involvement on adopt sustainable strategies to enhance income security of the older people for their better livelihood options.

The chief guest the consultation meeting was Mr. Morshed Alam Sarkar, Executive Director of POPI and the Chairperson of Credit Development Forum (CDF).

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Abul Haseeb Khan, the Executive Director of RIC. Mr. Abu Riyadh Khan, Deputy Director and Head of Microfinance of RIC shared the RIC's long time experience in implementing microcredit initiatives for the older people in Bangladesh.

The keynote paper was presented by Mr. Tofazzel Hossain Manju, researcher and national coordinator of the ISIGOP project. The panelists include, Mr. Md. Jahangir Alam, Coordinator of HelpAge Partners in Bangladesh, Mr. Md. Tajul Islam, Director of Palli Mangal Karmosuchi (PMK), Mr. Md. Nazmul Haider, Assistant Director at ESDO and Dr. Sharifa Begum, Vice President of Forum for the Rights of the Elderly, Bangladesh (FREB).

The session also explored the introduction of flexible loan packages for the older people through adoption of senior-friendly lending approaches to be implemented as a best practice in the existing microcredit programmes in Bangladesh.
