Gold price hits record high of Tk1.89 lakh per bhori

The price of gold has reached an all-time high in the country, hitting over Tk1.89 lakh per bhori (11.664 grams).

Jewellers have inflated the price of the precious yellow metal by around Tk3,675 to Tk1,89,622 per bhori due to a hike in the price of pure gold in the local market.

The Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring of the Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) made the decision at a meeting held on Tuesday.

On 9 September, the price of gold hit a record of Tk1,85,947 per bhori.

As per the new decision, the price of 22-carat gold will now be Tk16,257 per gram, and 21-carat Tk15,518 per gram, read a press release signed by the committee chairman, Masudur Rahman.

The price of 18-carat gold has been fixed at Tk13,301 a gram, while that of traditional gold at Tk11,034 per gram.

New tariffs would come into effect on Wednesday, read the release.

Meanwhile, prices of silver have also gone up.

The price of 22-carat silver is now Tk298 per gram, 21-carat Tk284, 18-carat Tk244, and traditional one is Tk183 per gram.

Buyers will also have to pay an additional 5 percent VAT set by the government, along with a minimum 6 percent making charge fixed by BAJUS.

The making charge may vary depending on design and quality, the release added.
