JUCSU polls in progress

Voting for the Jahangirnagar University Central Students' Union (JUCSU) and hall unions began across 21 residential halls -- 11 for men and 10 for women -- this (Thursday) morning, the first in 33 years.

The students started to cast their ballots at 9am amid tight security. Voting will continue till 5pm.

Pollings are taking place across 224 booths in 21 halls, 10 of them for female students and 11 for males.

The polls are supported by 67 polling officers and 67 assistant polling officers. Students are casting votes in 40 separate ballots for both central and hall councils, with counting to be conducted using special OMR machines.

To ensure security, around 1,200 police personnel, both in uniform and in civil dress, is deployed at designated points across the university campus, acting on the election commission’s directives. University security staff are overseeing the polling centres and halls, while two magistrates are also on duty.

This marks the 10th JUCSU election in Jahangirnagar’s history, with 11,897 students eligible to vote.
