Indian Sarees, Worth Tk 5 Crore Seized in N’ganj

The Coast Guard has seized 2,282 pieces of Indian sarees worth Tk 5 Crore, which were being smuggled without paying customs duties, from Fatullah’s Kutubpur Pagla area on the old Dhaka–Narayanganj road. In a press release issued Wednesday night, Coast Guard media officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq confirmed the matter.

He said that based on secret intelligence, from midnight (12:00 am) to 7:00 am on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Station Pagla in the Pagla Bazar area adjacent to Kutubpur under Fatullah police station in Narayanganj.

During the raid, a suspicious truck was searched, and 2,282 Indian sarees worth Tk 51.3 million smuggled into the country without paying customs duties were recovered. The truck driver was also detained.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq added that further legal action is currently underway.
