‘Election must be held by 15 Feb, it’s our commitment’

Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser Shafiqul Alam on Friday ruled out any possibility to delay upcoming national election.

“The election must be held in the first half of February. This is a commitment of our interim government,” he said while responding to a question from journalists after visiting the ancestral home of Muslim renaissance poet Farrukh Ahmed in Sreepur Upazila of Magura.

In response to a question that different political parties are giving different statements about the elections which is creating confusion among the people, the Press Secretary said, “If there are parties, there will be differences of opinion. Otherwise, why are there different parties? If you are like me, then you will follow the party I belong to. That is why there will be differences of opinion within the political parties. But we are repeating, the elections must be held by 15 February.”

“It will not be possible if anyone tries to foil the upcoming national election,” Shafiqul Alam said.

Mentioning that the upcoming national election is important for the country, the press secretary said, “This election is a very important election in Bangladesh, which will give direction to the upcoming elections as well as direction to move Bangladesh politics forward.”
