Calling movement now disrespects ongoing negotiations, says Amir Khasru

BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has criticized certain political parties for calling fresh movements while negotiations on key electoral issues are still ongoing. Speaking to reporters at his Banani office on Wednesday, he said that such actions disrespect the spirit of dialogue and risk destabilizing the political environment.

"Negotiations are still in progress, and consensus has already been reached on most issues," Khasru stated. "In this situation, raising a call for a movement sends the wrong message to the people. It appears as though some are intent on creating unrest rather than contributing to a solution."

Khasru expressed concern that the call for agitation may be a deliberate tactic to avoid elections altogether, undermining the ongoing efforts to reach a resolution. "Clearly, they are reluctant to face the electoral process. This hasn’t been finalized yet, but calling for protests in the middle of talks disrespects the negotiating table," he said. "People are now asking whether these actions are paving the way for the return of forces that were once ousted."

When asked whether the BNP is under pressure, Khasru firmly rejected the notion. "There’s no question of pressure. Our leaders and activists are committed to the electoral process," he said.

He added that as the people anticipate the upcoming election, it is essential for political actors to engage with voters through peaceful campaigns. "The ground must be taken through electioneering. The public wants a peaceful atmosphere. If anyone tries to disrupt that, they will soon realize the consequences for their political future," he warned.
