2 killed, 5 injured in N’ganj truck–CNG collision

Two people were killed and five others seriously injured in a head-on collision between a cylinder-laden truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Araihazar, Narayanganj. The accident occurred around 3:00 PM on Tuesday (12 August) in the Koraitala Taltala area of Bishnandi Union. The identities of the deceased were not immediately known.

According to police and eyewitnesses, a passenger-filled CNG auto-rickshaw was heading from Madanpur towards Bishnandi ferry ghat. As it reached the Koraitala Taltala junction, it collided head-on with a gas-laden truck coming from the opposite direction. Two people died on the spot a woman, approximately 50 years old, and a man, about 45 years old.

Saifuddin, Investigation Officer at Araihazar Police Station, confirmed the deaths of two people and injuries to five others. The truck involved in the accident has been seized, but the driver managed to flee and could not be arrested. Efforts are underway to restore normal traffic flow.

Araihazar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Sajjad Hossain visited the scene after receiving the news. “At the government hospital, we arranged for three of the injured to be sent by ambulance to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and two others to the National Institute of Neurosciences. All of them are in critical condition,” he said. The injured include two women, one child, and two men.

Following the accident, traffic remained halted on the road for about three hours, causing severe congestion on both sides. Hundreds of vehicles were stuck in the jam.
