US President Donald Trump said that India and Pakistan have agreed to a "full and immediate ceasefire" following deadly attacks between the nuclear-armed rivals.
"After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" he said in a post on Truth Social.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday confirmed that Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect, marking a pivotal de-escalation in the most intense military standoff between the two countries in recent years.
The foreign minister taking to his X (formerly Twitter) said: “Pakistan and India have agreed to an immediate ceasefire. We hope this will pave the way for broader diplomatic engagement and regional stability.”
Earlier Ishaq Dar, speaking live on Samaa TV, reiterated Pakistan’s willingness to de-escalate tensions, provided India halts its aggressive posture.
"If India stops, we will also stop," Dar said. "We talk about equality. Fighting is not the solution to anything."
India also confirmed the ceasefire.
In a short statement, Indian Foreign secretary Vikram Misri on Saturday said, "Pakistan's Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) called Indian DGMO at 15:35 hours earlier this afternoon. It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all firing and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 1700 hours Indian Standard Time. Today, instructions have been given on both sides to give effect to this understanding. The Directors General of Military Operations will talk again on the 12th of May at 1200 hours."
Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also underlined that the two countries have "worked out an understanding".
"India and Pakistan have today worked out an understanding on stoppage of firing and military action. India has consistently maintained a firm and uncompromising stance against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. It will continue to do so," the Minister posted on X.
