BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that there is no alternative but to hold the national election for the country’s political and economic resilience at this moment.
“We, the countrymen, want an election as it is the only way to address all crises and to ensure the country’s political and economic resilience,” he said while talking to reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul said the interim government is firmly committed to holding the national election and ensuring its smooth departure in February next year.
Claiming that the people’s rights will not be upheld if the upcoming general election is held under the Proportional Representation (PR) system, Fakhrul said his party is completely against the method.
Earlier on 13 August, Fakhrul left Dhaka for Bangkok, Thailand, for follow-up eye treatment.
He landed at the Dhaka Airport around 6:00 pm on Tuesday.
