Officials have nothing to worry about dissolution of NBR: Finance Advisor

Finance Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed said, “Although the NBR has been dissolved and two departments have been formed, the officials of the institution have no reason to worry. All countries have such separate departments. This was done after talking to high-level officials of the NBR and administration officials. It will not affect revenue collection.”

He said this while talking to reporters after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement on Tuesday.

The Financial Advisor said, “There will be no impact on revenue collection. So far, revenue collection has been 2 percent higher than last time. It is not disappointing, but we are expecting more. At least it will not be less than last time.”

Regarding the upcoming budget, the Financial Advisor said, “There will not be a big deficit in the budget. Projects, ADP implementation - these will be done on the basis of reality. The budget will not be implemented by borrowing from banks, or printing money. There will be some deficit. We have talked to the IMF and the World Bank to fulfill that, and we are fairly successful in that regard.”

Salehuddin Ahmed said, "In all countries of the world, the revenue policy and implementation departments are separate. Those who will formulate policies must be professionals; that is, they must have an idea of the country's GDP, economy, statistics. Those who will formulate policies must also collect revenue— that cannot be the system."
