The NBR Reform Unity Council has called for a strike again, claiming that the committee formed to make necessary amendments to the ordinance issued on the NBR is unacceptable.
They made this announcement at a press conference at the NBR building on Saturday afternoon.
The leaders of the organization said that there is a budget passing process on Sunday. For this, on Monday, officials and employees of all departments in Dhaka will observe a sit-in and strike at the NBR from 9 am to 12 noon, and officials and employees of other departments will observe a sit-in and strike at their respective offices from 9 am to 12 noon.
They said, “The NBR chairman is the biggest obstacle to the reform of the Board of Revenue. If he is not removed immediately, strict action will be taken.”
The government issued an ordinance on May 12 to abolish the National Board of Revenue (NBR) and divide it into two departments, namely, Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Department. In protest, the officials and employees of the Board of Revenue held various programs under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council. In view of this, the government announced the necessary amendments to the ordinance issued on the NBR by July 31. In continuation of this, the NBR formed a six-member committee consisting of customs and tax cadre officials on June 19. This time, the NBR Reform Unity Council has raised questions about this committee.
