
The much-awaited biennial election of the Journalists Union Cox's Bazar-JUC has been completed amidst great enthusiasm and festive atmosphere. In this, all the candidates of the professional journalists' panel Helali-Mahbub-Jafar panel have emerged victorious.
According to the information provided by the Election Commission, 29 out of 53 votes were cast. The president was elected as the staff reporter of the daily Dinkal, Nurul Islam Helali, vice-president as the district correspondent of the daily Kalbela, MR Mahbub, general secretary as the news editor of the daily Rupali Saikat, S. M. Jafar, joint editor as the district correspondent of the daily Banik Barta, Syed Alam, treasurer as the staff reporter of NTV, Shahed Mizan, organizing secretary as the district correspondent of the daily Azadi, Bedarul Alam, staff reporter of the daily Cox's Bazar, publicity and publication editor as the member, Shamsul Haque Sharek, special correspondent of the daily Inqilab, and M. Jasim Uddin Siddiqui, staff reporter of the daily Sangbad, were elected as members.
On the other hand, 7 candidates from the Ashek-Hasim-Ansar panel received one vote each, and vice-president candidate Mohammad Hasim received 2 votes and joint secretary candidate Humayun Sikder received 3 votes.
On June 14 (Saturday) from 9 am to 1 pm, voters continuously cast their votes for their preferred candidates in the hall room of the Cox's Bazar Press Club.
The chairman of the election management committee, SM Aminul Haque Chowdhury, a founding member of the Cox's Bazar Press Club, said that after a long wait, the election of the Journalists Union Cox's Bazar (JUC) was held. Out of 53 voters, 29 voters cast their votes for their preferred candidate.
Two other members of the Election Commission, Mahbubur Rahman and AH Selim Ullah, were responsible for the voting.
Election Commission member Mahbubur Rahman said that this election of the Journalists Union Cox's Bazar, the highest organization of journalists, has burned a lot of wood. Therefore, there was a great interest in this election not only from the journalist community, but also from the conscious community. For this reason, strict security was strengthened during the voting. Police forces were deployed.
CCTV cameras were installed in the Press Club courtyard.
