Tulip’s letter requesting a meeting with Chief Adviser

Former UK city minister and niece of fugitive autocrat Sheikh Hasina, Tulip Siddiq, has written a letter requesting a meeting with Dr Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of Bangladesh's interim government. According to a report by British daily The Guardian, she wishes to speak with Dr Yunus to resolve what she refers to as certain misunderstandings.

Meanwhile, the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam, told the media on Sunday that they have not received any letter from Tulip.

Tulip is currently under investigation in Bangladesh over allegations of corruption. She has requested a meeting with Dr Yunus during his visit to London to clarify these issues. As part of this, she invited Dr Yunus to a lunch or afternoon tea at the House of Commons.

Tulip’s aunt, Sheikh Hasina, faced trial in absentia last week on charges of crimes against humanity. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has brought allegations against Tulip, claiming she benefited from various privileges during Hasina’s 17-year rule.

Anti-Corruption Commission(ACC) claimed that Siddiq or her mother had received a 7,200 sq ft plot of land through “abuse of power and influence”.

After the corruption allegations surfaced, Tulip, who has maintained her innocence, mysteriously resigned from her post. Since then, she has appeared increasingly sidelined in British politics.

In her letter to Dr Muhammad Yunus—Nobel laureate and head of Bangladesh’s interim government—Tulip requested a chance to discuss the ongoing controversy during Yunus’s upcoming visit to London. During the visit, Dr Yunus is scheduled to meet King Charles and Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Downing Street
