Finance Adviser Dr Salehuddin Ahmed has proposed an allocation of TK 10,886 crore for the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division in the fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026.
“Community education allowance for medical students and allowance for nursing students have also been increased. The monthly allowance for basic subject teachers in medical education has been increased to 50 percent from 20 percent of the basic salary, which will be effective from the next fiscal year,” he said while unveiling the proposed national budget for FY26 in a televised speech.
“Initiatives have been taken to provide necessary training for caregivers. Besides, launching PhD courses in nursing education and establishing an international standard training centre for nurse educators are being considered. To harness the benefits of demographic dividend and build a prosperous Bangladesh through the development and planned management of the population, the ‘Bangladesh Population Policy 2025’ is being formulated by updating the existing population policy. In addition, the formulation of the ‘Bangladesh National Family Planning Strategy Paper 2025-2030’ is at the final stage to achieve zero maternal deaths that are preventable and zero gender-based violence by 2030,” he added.
The finance adviser said of the proposed TK 10,886 crore, TK 4,984 crore is designated for operational expenses, while Taka 5,902 crore is for development expenditure.
In comparison, the revised budget for FY25 allocated TK 6,807 crore for the ministry.
