Mild heatwave to continue baking four divisions

A mild heatwave is sweeping over four divisions and six other districts in the country and is likely to persist, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

“Mild heatwave is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Khulna divisions and the districts of Faridpur, Madaripur, Tangail, Chandpur, Feni, and Patuakhali and it may continue,” the Met office said in a bulletin on Tuesday.

A mild heatwave occurs when temperatures are between 36 degrees Celsius and 37.9 degrees Celsius, while a moderate heatwave ranges from 38 degrees Celsius to 39.9 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures between 40 degrees Celsius and 41.9 degrees Celsius are considered a severe heatwave, while anything at or above 42 degrees Celsius is classified as a very severe heatwave.

The highest temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius in Saidpur on Monday.

“Light to moderate rain/thundershower with temporary gusty wind is likely to occur at a few places over Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal divisions,” the Met office forecast today.

The weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country, while day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged, it said.

The monsoon is less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over North Bay.
