Ivy’s Bail petitions Rejected in Three Cases

A Narayanganj court has rejected the bail petitions of former mayor Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy in three separate cases. On Monday (June 2), the District and Sessions Judge Court of Narayanganj, presided over by Judge Shamim Azad, announced the verdict in two murder cases and one attempted murder case.

Court police inspector Abdul Kaiyum Khan informed the media that hearings took place in three cases related to the Anti-Discrimination Movement: the murder of Minarul on September 3, 2024, registered with Siddhirganj Police Station; the murder of Md. Tuhin on September 13, 2024; and the attempted murder of Nadim on September 11, 2024. Following hearings from both sides, the judge rejected Ivy’s bail petitions in all three cases.

Dr. Ivy’s lawyer, Advocate Awlad Hossain, stated that there is no direct mention of Ivy’s involvement in the FIRs of the two murder and one attempted murder case. “No charges have been specifically described under any legal section against Ivy in these cases,” he said. “Still, the court rejected her bail pleas after the hearing.”

On behalf of the prosecution, Public Prosecutor Advocate Omar Faruk Noyon said that Ivy is accused of ordering the attacks in the two murder and one attempted murder case. “She has already provided significant information during a two-day remand in one of the murder cases,” he added.

Earlier on May 9, former mayor Ivy was arrested from her residence in West Deobhog, Narayanganj. She was produced before the court in a murder case, after which the court ordered her to be sent to jail. On May 27, following a two-day remand in the Minarul murder case, the court again ordered her to be sent to prison.
