
Vice Chancellor of the World University of Bangladesh addresses 22nd Foundation Day celebration event on WUB campus at Uttara in Dhaka on Saturday.
As part of 22nd Foundation Day celebrations, the World University of Bangladesh declared the names of esteemed freedom fighters and valiant contributors to the nation’s independence struggle on WUB campus at Uttara in Dhaka on Saturday.
The recipients are – Shahid Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni, a revered freedom fighter and chief of Mujib Bahini during the war of liberation, freedom fighter Obaidul Quader, minister of road transport and bridges, freedom fighter Asaduzzaman Khan, minister of home affairs, Md Abdus Shahid, minister of agriculture, and RAM Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, minister of housing and public works, professor Dr Pran Gopal Datta, advocate Munsurul Haq Chowdhury, former justice and prof Abdul Mannan Choudhury, said a press release.
They will be awarded medals with a ceremony later on.
In addition to recognising the valiant efforts of these heroes, the WUB published supplements and a souvenir, featuring brief biographies of the honoured freedom fighters. This gesture aims to immortalise their stories and inspire future generations with their bravery and resilience.
Treasurer of WUB Morsheda Choudhury delivered welcome speech while the programme was presided over by professor M Nurul Islam, pro-vice-chancellor of WUB.
Deans of different faculties and registrar of the university were present at the event.
The ceremony was begun with plantation of sapling and concluded by lunch, raffle draw and cultural functions, hosted by the WUB students and band show by ‘ChirKutt’.
As many as 3,500 students, including the dignitaries and principals of nearby colleges attended the ceremony.
