Chinmoy Das granted HC bail in sedition case

The High Court today (April 30) granted bail to former ISKCON leader Chandan Kumar Dhar, known as Chinmoy Krishna Das, in a sedition case.

The bench of Justice Md Atoar Rahman and Justice Md Ali Reza passed the order after holding hearing on a bail petition filed by Chinmoy.

On April 23, Chinmoy's lawyer sought bail, citing his client's illness. The HC deferred the decision, saying it would deliver the verdict after today's hearing.

On October 31, 2024, Firoz Khan, former general secretary of BNP’s Mohora ward in Chattogram, filed a case accusing Chinmoy and 18 others of disrespecting the national flag during an October 25 rally in the city’s New Market area.

Chinmoy was arrested in Dhaka on November 25 and sent to jail the next day after a Chattogram court rejected his bail plea.

The same court denied him bail again on December 11.
