Keokradong to open for tourists

After being closed for two long years, Keokradong, one of the country's highest mountain peaks, is being opened from next Wednesday (October 1).

The Bandarban district administration took this decision on Saturday on the occasion of World Tourism Day.

Deputy commissioner Shamim Ara Rini informed local journalists after a clean-up drive at the Meghla tourist center in the district town on the occasion of Tourism Day.

However, although a decision has been taken in principle in this regard, a notification has not been issued yet, said the administration's tourism cell officer and Nezarat deputy collector (NDC) Md. Sarwar Hossain.

The Army Engineering Division (ECB) has completed the construction of a paved road from Ruma’s Bagalek to Keokradong to facilitate the travel of tourists. But in the face of military activity by the local separatist organization 'Kuki-Chin National Front (KNF),' the local administration imposed a ban on domestic and foreign tourists in Ruma, Thanchi, and Rowangchhari upazilas in 2023 for the sake of public safety.

However, as the situation normalized, the tourist spots in these upazilas were opened for domestic and foreign tourists. In continuation of this, the Keokradong tourist center is being opened from next Wednesday (October 1).
