Allegation Against JnU Chatra League beating businessman

Jagannath University (JnU) two Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating up a fruit trader in Badamtali in Old Dhaka and robbing him of money. In this incident, the victim Helal Uddin ( fruit trader) went to Sutrapur police station to file a case, but the police did not take the case.

The accused are JnU Chhatra League vice-president Mohiuddin Ani and organizing secretary Hasibul Hasan Hridoy. The incident happened on April 26 (Friday). 

Fruit trader Helal Uddin said, since it is closed on a weekly basis, I collect money and go in front of Jubilee School to talk on Friday night. At that moment, Mohiuddin Ani saw me and told Hasibul Hasan Hridoy to see how much money I have in my pocket. At that time I had two lakh 36 thousand taka. I understand they will take that money from me. So I ran and stayed inside a hotel. From there Ani dragged me out and slapped and killed me several times.  The people inside the hotel saved me at one point.

Businessman Helal said, out of the two lakh 36 thousand taka with me, they took two lakh 19 thousand taka.  As the rest of the money was in the wallet, he did not get a chance to take it.  Besides, they tried several times to take my mobile phone.  Ani and Hridoy were accompanied by Sourav, Ripon and others during the entire incident. They even threatened to kill me if I told anyone about the incident.

The victim Helal also said that after the incident I went to Sutrapur police station to file a case.  The police asked me to settle the matter with money instead of filing a case. On Monday night 3 people followed me till Wari. Seeing them, I tried to run away quickly. He threatened to kill them again for not responding to their calls.

Meanwhile, in the hotel's CCTV footage, Mohiuddin Ani was seen slapping businessman Helaluddin several times in front of the door.  Later, Ani tried to throw the hotel plate at Helal.  At that time Hasibul Hasan Hridiya and others were present.

However, denying the money robbery, JnU Chhatra League Vice President Mohiuddin Ani said, Helal Uddin is my acquaintance since 2014-15. He gives money to Ibrahim Faraji Bhai, President of our University Chhatra League. I went to talk to him about it. Then he abused my parents by name. So I gave two slaps. As he is my old acquaintance, I apologized to him and he apologized to me.  The matter was resolved.

JnU Chhatra League's organizing secretary Hasibul Hasan made several calls to Hriday's mobile phone on Tuesday evening but it was switched off.

JnU Chhatra League President Md. Ibrahim Faraji said, many people want to get away by saying my name. I never asked anyone to kill anyone for me. I have no contact with that businessman for 6-7 years. Knock-robbers can never be someone from the Chhatra League.

 Officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station.  Masud Alam said that no complaint has been received in this regard. We are not aware of this.
